All Back Together Again

28 Jan

We were really excited to welcome Allen back this past week after he was away from school for about a month. He and his family had been over in India during the holidays and due to some visa issues they had to stay in the country for a couple more days until they could get all the paperwork through. Then, when they finally got home, they all got sick with a bacterial infection, so Allen was out for yet another week of school. So, needless to say after all this, we were all thrilled to finally have him back. Open-mouthed

Make sure you check out the pictures of our cotton ball snowman art project we made on Friday. It was a lot of fun Wink

Happy Birthday, Mom!!

15 Jan

Today is my mom’s birthday!!! We all worked together to try to make her day pretty special. Of course, during the day, while we were away at school and work, she went about her usual business doing laundry and such Confused…I guess a mother’s work is never done! Thankfully, she got a nice break when Mrs. Hall took her out to a special birthday lunch…thanks, Mrs. Hall! Smile I was at school till about 5:30 today, so I couldn’t be in charge of dinner necessarily. I gave Alayna the job of making the birthday cake….which she and Susannah did yesterday….and I gave Andy the job of "head chef" in the kitchen tonight. I had gotten the ingredients the other day, and all he would need to do…or so I thought…was heat everything up. Well, I accidently didn’t get enough rice, so Andy had to look up a recipe and make some "risotto" to add to the rice I had bought. He did a GREAT job with improvising Open-mouthed!! I am so proud of him Wink  We had delicious chicken cordon bleu, rice, salad, and rolls followed up by Alayna’s birthday cake and Moose track icecream Tongue out. So altogether, I think Mom had a good day. She definitely deserves a lot because of everything she does for all of us and so many other people around her!!!

Our Special “Show & Share”

6 Jan

Yesterday we had a special Show & Share where the children got to bring in one of the presents they got for Christmas. The highlight of Show & Share was Emaline’s baby rabbit, Izzy. She was so cute! She stayed in her basket and listened "attentively" Wink while we did the pledges and had calendar time. When I was about to start the Bible story, she started getting a little ansty. She started sneaking out of the basket, and I turned around and said, "Izzy, get back in!" Well, I was certainly shocked when that little rabbit backed right up and hid in her basket. I didn’t realize rabbits are capable of obeying commands!!Smile So, finally, after the Bible story we released Izzy from her "basket bondage" and Emaline told us all about her. We then took turns holding her. Let’s just say when it was time for Izzy to go home, it was hard for us to say good-bye!

Some of you may remember when we had our revival meeting this past year, Bro. Hudson made a comment one night that went something like this, "If a kindergarten teacher is worth her salt, she has Show & Tell!!" Well, at first, I was a little worried that I wasn’t "worth my salt" because I don’t have Show & Tell Surprised…..I have Show & Share……….does that count? Wink I grew up with the term "Show & Tell" but when I was working at daycare the preschool teacher called it "Show & Share". I liked that term much better because when things are alliterated, I am happy Open-mouthed. So I hope that counts!!! I don’t want to be a kindergarten teacher who isn’t worth her salt! Disappointed  Okay, I am over it now Tongue out Be sure to check out the pictures of Izzy and her favorite fans!

Happy New Year!!

2 Jan

Last night after a rousing game of Super Scrabble and Word Yahtzee, my family sat down and we looked through our 2007 calendar to remember some things that had gone on throughout this past year. Throughout the year my Dad writes things down that happen in our lives that might be forgotten by the end of the year. It is amazing all the things you forget by the time December 31 rolls around!! At almost midnight, we turned on the TV and watched the ball drop in Times Square. It was pretty neat this year because we had been in Times Square on vacation. It was crazy then…I can’t imagine how crazy it was last night! I was a little misty-eyed as I thought about all the changes that happened in my life in 2007. There were good things like finishing college and becoming a kindergarten teacher.  However, there were also some sad changes like losing Christy. It just made me wonder…. what changes are going to happen in 2008? However, I know God is in control and whatever happens I can rest in Him!!! Hey, the changes might very well be good changes. Open-mouthed

Today my grandparents and Aunt Cheryl came over in the afternoon. We had some more rousing games of UNO Spin with Aunt Cheryl. For supper, we had pork, sour kraut, mashed potatoes, rye bread, and shoo-fly pie for dessert. Yum, yum….one of my favorite meals Tongue out…that is definitely the Pennsylvania Dutch coming out of me!!! After supper, we played another game of Super Scrabble. My brain is officially fried now Disappointed. Every word I see, I think…hmmmmmm….what is the point value of that word? You gotta check out the pictures to see my "fried brain" look Wink. Well, my brain can’t stay fried too long. Tomorrow I return to the wonderful world of kindergarten. Ready or not…here I come!! Smile I think I am ready….well, we shall see tomorrow!
